The jewellery we would have chosen for the best dressed at the Met Ball
The Met Gala launches the New York Metropolitan Museum of Arts (aka The Met) Costume Institute's annual exhibition and serves as a fashion feast with a catwalk all of its own.
Each year the Costume Institute's exhibition follows a theme, and that theme sets the dress code for the Met Ball. This year’s theme was “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”.
Charm coming soon. Hoops: Mili Gold Hoop & Ruby Big Sister Hoop.
Guests are tasked with being inventive, making a statement and being on theme with their sartorial choices.
Arguably New York's most illustrious fundraiser - it's one of the most exclusive and visually exciting fashion events of the year, enabling the guests to be the first to see the exhibition itself.
Diana Vreeland, Vogue's former editor-in-chief, laid the foundations for the gala to evolve from a standard New York society event into one of the most sought after balls in the world, when as chairman of the Costume Institute, she became instrumental in developing the guest list by expanding it to include a global audience of rock stars and celebrities.
Since Anna Wintour took over as the chairman of the Costume Institute in 1995, the Gala had raised an estimated $200million up to 2019.
The creativity, showmanship and imagination that fashion designers and stylists make guests part of the exhibit themselves. The best outfits should wow, make a statement as well as make the wearer look utterly irresistible. Some might create political statements and capture the zeitgeist.
